To go far, go together

I was recently summoned for jury duty and assigned to a trial for the first time.

The defendant was found not guilty for a marijuana DUI (it’s legal for recreational use in Colorado but not while driving). During the trial, I thought it was interesting to participate in the judicial process but didn’t feel very involved emotionally.

For me, initially, the trial was a disruption in my daily routine; an inconvenience. For him, however, it was a pivotal moment in his life. Later that night, the responsibility of the moment struck me. I was there, I participated in this important moment in his life. We still are strangers, but I was an influencing force in his life on that jury.

We can never predict the impact we have on another person, but we do have an impact. Our decisions affect others. We are all connected in little or big ways.

Take a moment to reflect on the influencing moments in your life. Good, bad, little, big, pretty, ugly; we are the collection of the moments in our lives. Be proud of your collection, pretty or not.

“If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together.” African Proverb
