Ascend, descend, transcend

Dualities are all around us in life, but often we need a third or fourth dimension.

I don’t actually enjoy 3D movies, or maybe I just haven’t met one I’ve especially liked, but 3D in life is essential. To get at the really interesting and important things in life, you must transcend duality.

Life isn’t black or white, good or bad, up or down. Day-to-day life is full of gray, okay, and middle.

The next time you feel stuck with a choice or a creative project, try looking at it in 3D. What dimension are you missing? What could shift your perspective a bit to bring in some fresh ideas or options?

Have some “dimension sets” to compare and transcend the duality of the situation:
* body, heart, mind, soul;
* fire, earth, air, water;
* spring, summer, autumn, winter;
* passion, ideas, resources, values;
* close, middle-distance, far, vanishing point;
* 5 minutes, 5 days, 5 months, 5 years.

Use them to help you brainstorm, journal, or frame a tarot reading. Pick a set that catches your attention or make up your own, and try to shift your perspective.

“Not to be boxed in, to be able to transcend boundaries: for an artist, it’s essential.” Shahzia Sikander
