Build your creativity container

Last week, I encouraged you to think about “What kind of container would most help your creativity right now?” (“A creativity container is anything that helps you get your creative work done. It holds space for your creativity to develop.”)

Today, I invite you to build your container. Clear off space on your desk, put time in your schedule, etc. Take steps to make your creativity container a reality to support your creative practices.

If you’re still not sure what kind of creativity container you need, consider why you’re not getting your creative work done and go from there.

  • If you think you don’t have time, begin by building a regular art date in your calendar.
  • If you don’t have mental or emotional energy, begin with a self-care practice and some easy art, like coloring.
  • If you aren’t sure what to work on, begin with some brainstorming or browsing ideas on Pinterest.
  • If you’re stuck in resistance, make it the focus of a meditation or prayer practice.

I said last week, “A creativity container is like a corral where your creative projects can safely graze and grow stronger. It is a boundary you set to mark your creative time and protect your creative projects.”

Make your container, create a safe space for your creativity, and build some momentum on your creative dreams.
