Creativity Dis-ease 11: Misaligned Creative Self-Image

In my role as a creativity coach, I’ve identified 12 creativity dis-eases that get us off-track from our art. Each month, I’ll highlight one.

This month, we’re talking about a “Misaligned Creative Self-Image.” Can you relate?

You consider yourself a creative person. Art and creativity are important to you. You enjoy other people’s art. You have a list of creative ideas or even a sketch pad of ideas for projects, but they don’t often move beyond the idea phase. You think about being an artist but you don’t follow through and make the art.

Like someone who reads travel guidebooks and pins photos of Paris but never steps on the plane, you need to go beyond your planning into action.

Action can be scary, because it opens us up to things like responsibility, failure, and criticism; but you won’t get anywhere if you don’t take action.

Take the reins today and do something creative. Live your value of art and creativity each day. Don’t just fantasize about making art. Empower your creative self-image to take action. Pick one of your ideas, any idea, and make it a reality!

What do you think? Have you experienced a “Misaligned Creative Self-Image”?
