Theme: Vacation

Coach Blog 071116 theme vacation Summer is often vacation time, and I just came back from a short 3-day trip to San Diego and I have another short trip planned at the end of this month. I believe heartily in the importance of vacation and encourage you to take time away, even if you just take a few hours of retreat at your local library.

Vacation is important because it interrupts the day-to-day pattern of our lives. It allows us to vacate routine and gain a fresh perspective. That little window of perspective is important, especially when we can’t see the forest for the trees. It helps us stay conscious to our lives and direct them when we step back into “normal” life. Plus, vacations are great fun and good for mental health!

Vacations don’t need to be expensive or elaborate; the point is to get away, mentally, emotionally, and physically. Even having a picnic lunch in the park can be a vacation if you really make a conscious effort to get away and disconnect from “normal” life.

So let’s consider these questions about vacation:

  • When is the last time you took a vacation?
  • When is your next one planned?
  • What is the best vacation you’ve ever had?
  • What elements most contributed to your enjoyment?
  • Are those elements included in your next vacation?

One of my personal mottoes is “always be planning a vacation.” I hope you’ll think about vacations and spend a little time planning your next one soon!
