One of my teachers, Leonie Dawson, mentioned the Native American medicine wheel in a workshop earlier this year. The forth direction of this wheel is a cave where you can recover and rediscover; including self-care, rest, retreat, and dreaming/visioning.
I’ve talked a lot in the past about how important the “fallow” period of productivity is, and I like the image of a cave for this; retreating, protected, warm and cozy.
Especially as summer gets into full swing in the northern hemisphere, an active/busy time of year for many, notice when you feel the urge to retreat and rest, regardless of the calendar. Notice your internal cycle and respect your personal ebbs and flows.
Personally, coming back from a great vacation, I’m still taking time to recover and rediscover; recover from the time away, and rediscover my daily routines, habits, and changes I want to implement.
When is the last time you took time to recover and rediscover? What kind of “cave” would best help you do that?
