Take a “fallow date”

Coach Blog 021214 A few weeks ago, I mentioned Julia Cameron’s “artist date” concept, where you take your inner artist on a date to soak up inspiration and motivation.

Today, I would like to introduce you to my own concept: a “fallow date”. You can do this on your own or invite a good friend to join you.

For your fallow date, you will do nothing. If you have trouble doing nothing, you can alternate 20 minutes of nothing with some other gentle, relaxing activities; have a cup of tea, take a walk around the block, listen to a piece of soothing music, take a nap, pet your dog or cat, etc.

You might think it would be awkward to do nothing with a friend, but it actually can deepen your friendship! Once you’re comfortable sharing space and not having to fill it with anything, you can get to know your friend on a deeper, more personal level. You can watch the lengths of her breath. You can count her freckles. You can blend your energies.
