Autumn Optimism

This time of year, it can be difficult to stay optimistic. The leaves are falling, the trees are bare and spindly, the weather turns frigid. We turn to comfort food and may gain some weight. The world doesn’t look very abundant.

Coach Blog 111813 However, we know that spring is only six months away. Then the world will be green and flowering and the sun will shine and warm our bodies and hearts.

Remember this cycle whenever you’re feeling down. It may feel that winter will be here forever; it may feel like you’ll never get over a heartbreak or loss or disappointment. But the world turns, the sun shines, and we will be warm again one day.

Try to enjoy the cycle for what it is; be in the present moment. If bare trees make you feel sad, allow yourself to be sad for a while, and then maybe make a popcorn garland and use it to decorate your sad tree. Allow your sadness, but then do something to make you feel glad.

Remember that sadness, like winter, has it’s time and will pass. You can choose optimism any time of year.
