Confidence – Fake it

Back in July, I mentioned that one way to build confidence is to tackle one of your fears head-on.

Another way to build confidence is to fake it!

Like the saying “actions speak louder than words,” actions have an impact on your mood. It’s easy to test this – sit up straight at your desk, take a deep breath, and smile. Doesn’t that make you feel a little lighter? Now slouch your shoulders and frown. The lightness goes away.

Just as putting on a smile for no reason makes you feel a little happier, you can put confidence on to invite it into your day. Stand up straighter. Be decisive in your movements and decisions. Look people in the eye when you greet them. Enunciate your words clearly. Speak up when you have something to say. And for fun, smile for no reason.

If you have more self-confidence, you also have more self-trust to keep the commitments you’ve made to yourself. With self-confidence, you won’t let other people poo-poo your dreams or make claims on your time that serve them more than you. With self-confidence, you dare to dream a little bit bigger than before!



  1. I fake confidence on a daily basis. For other reasons, I still haven’t been able to really believe it, but other people do seem to think that I have far more confidence than I actually have. Also, sorry I missed our lunch date yesterday 😛
